Simplymommie15th September 2014Skylake BB CreamI'm a BB cream fan. Ever since I gave up on the convenient 2-way cake foundation 6 years ago, I've tried various brands of BB cream, and I've also given a shot at CC cream, but I really have to say so far my favourite is Skylake's Natural Multi BB cream which I've been using it since June.Made in Korea by ISO 9001 certified green company, Skylake aldiware products are made from 18 types of oriental herbs and contains mo% natural ingredients with no chemical preservatives. I don't know about you, but I really like that combination! Skylake's BB cream whitens and moishuises the skin while providing good UV protection. I hate using sunscreen so that's another plus point —lean skip that!I normally squeeze out a few small blobs at a time and then blending it evenly on the face. Here are my before/after makeup pics (photo taken with front camera of iPhone 5 in natural light): Unlike most cosmetics, Skylake slthicare products are known to soothe, hydrate and empower the skin's natural healing abilities. As you can see, Dm got rather uneven skin tone which the BB cream helps to cover up. Alas, those dark eye rings can't be further concealed — I've not found any concealer which can do the job properly and even on my wedding day the makeup artiste had problems with that Sigh. Nevertheless, I like that the finish is natural and radiant and my skin doesn't look kinda greyish (which can be the case for some BB creams). If my zits aren't too angry/ huge, also found that Skylake's BB cream can cover it easily without additional use of concealer. Probably the only grouse I have is the pump — I find that it sometimes squirts out too little/ too much and it took me a few times to get used to it and get the desired amount each time. Maybe it's just me. Shop Now

[GO4GLOW Spotlight]: New Indie brand Skylake is hanbang heaven if you’re looking for natural/ clean skincare
Hanbang = Korean word referring to herbal/ traditional medicine.
Hot on the heels of Sulwhasoo, many brands are offering hanbang products these days — kind of the Asian beauty equivalent of organic/ clean skincare of the Western world.
About 1 month ago I got *really* into Skylake, a fairly indie Korean skincare brand. With a tagline of “natural Korean skincare”, I really couldn’t resist.
Now let’s talk about ingredients — as far as I have seen, Skylake is paraben free, mineral oil free, and sulphate free. Whaaaat. I’ve seriously not seen cleaner ingredients lists.
Skylake products contain a blend of 18 oriental herbs that promise to promote blood circulation, nourish, disinfect, soothe, purify and strengthen the skin. Many of these ingredients are antioxidants as well! You can read more about Skylake at Hebeloft.
I gotta admit, even before I slathered any of this on my face, I was already sold. And using these products for the last month didn’t disappoint me at all. I raved about them so much that my 2 workmates started using them too, and then we ended up raving about them together to anyone else who would listen. My Skylake haul: Herb Dual Maskpack (Elastic), Herbal Relax Toner, Oriental Herb Hosu Aqua Gel, and Oriental Herb Hosu Aqua Cream
1. SkylakeHerb Dual Maskpack (Elastic)
Just take a look at the ingredients in this mask for an idea of how clean Skylake’s products are. There are no irritants save for Butylene Glycol and Carbomer, and those rank quite low.
Using this mask was awesome. It smells like all the other Skylake products — which is to say, ultimatehanbang, almost like double boiled soup (with cloves). It is really soothing, worked well to brighten my skin, and was very moisturising too!
My only problems with the mask were the fit — it was huge. Was able to make it work with some folding though. Also, the ‘neck’ piece didn’t stay on my neck. It kept falling off, so I eventually ripped it off my neck in frustration.
That aside, I will definitely repurchase this mask! Suitable for sensitive, irritated, acne-prone skin.
2. Skylake Herbal Relax Toner
With such innocuous packaging and such a simple name, I didn’t expect to love this toner mist as much as I do. When the sales associate was showing it to me, she sprayed it into her eyes and mouth (yes really) to show how gentle the formula is. And it really is that gentle!
Because I already have my beloved Klairs Supple Preparation Toner, I use this as a mist to soothe and moisturise my skin during the day. I have found it also works on itchy/ irritated spots on my body (mosquito bites, rashes, small cuts). It’s really soothing, and again, has a dream ingredients list.
Recommended for people with oily/ combination skin — this will nourish and moisturise without feeling oily or heavy. Also suitable for sensitive skin! I find this perfect for soothing my skin on hot days.
3. Oriental Herb Hosu Aqua Gel and Cream
I’m putting these together because I really don’t think they should be used apart. I first purchased the Oriental Herb Hosu Aqua Cream by itself. I thought it was quite gentle and soothing, but I didn’t see any drastic differences.
However, after getting the Oriental Herb Hosu Aqua Gel on impulse, and using it before the cream, I realised my skin was truly *glowing*. I use these in the day, and I’ve found myself unwilling to put on makeup because I didn’t want to cover up any of that glow.
What I love most about the Skylake Oriental Hosu Aqua Gel and Cream is that they don’t sit on my skin like some other awful, silicone-ladden moisturisers (Clinique Moisture Surge, I’m looking at you). This means they don’t clog pores, won’t irritate skin, and won’t leave a film over your skin that’s impossible to remove.
Another plus for these two products is that they contain fermented ingredients! For instance, bifida, which strengthens your skin barrier, and galactomytes ferment filtrate, popularly found in SKII, and believed to be a powerful anti-ageing ingredient.
Perfect for anyone who wants a beautiful, translucent, dewy glow on their skin — cos the combination of the gel and cream delivers that with the first use.
PS: They have a “Skin” (aka toner) as well in this line. I’ve heard great things about it too, but haven’t tried.
If this post sounds excitable and slightly incoherent, it’s only because I love Skylake so much. Using these products for a month (along with misting about 10 times a day) has greatly improved my skin barrier, given me a consistent glow (seriously, not a day of dull skin since I started using these), and best of all… no breakouts.
Skylake can be found at Hebeloft.com, Redmart, and the aLT concept BHG at Bugis Junction.

The toner has a transparent watery texture. Although it contain mostly herbal and plant ingredients, I can't really smell anything from it.
Transparent watery texture.
Also, I only found out that this toner is edible!!! Well, I don't dare to try it. But am really glad that it is really a harmless and gentle toner. My skin feels really refreshing after spraying and it is absorbed well by my skin. It prepares my skin well for other skincare application. I like it that it can be apply to eye area as well.Although it is better to spray directly, but when I first use this toner, I still like it used with cotton pad. Reason is that I tend to spray out of my face, wasting the toner. But after using for sometime, my aiming is more accurate, I have been spraying it. Feels more refreshing spraying than using cotton pad. During the first few weeks, I really cannot tell what is the different using this toner. Soon, I started to realise that my oil control is much more balance. This have in turn helps lessen the appearance of blemish, making my skin more manageable. I have slowly grow to like this toner. [GO4GLOW]: Korean indie brand Skylake hair tonic, shampoo and conditioner + amazing hair growth!
JULY 30, 2017GO4GLOW
*Disclaimer: All products in this post were sent to me by Hebeloft for review. All opinions are my own.
If you’ve been reading my blog, you will know that I’m currently obsessed with the Korean indie brand Skylake. It’s a great skincare brand that uses a proprietary blend of 18 hanbang (herbal) ingredients to soothe, hydrate and strengthen the skin. As a huge fan of Skylake’s herbal mists, sheet masks, and moisturiser, I was really excited to try out their haircare.
My hair condition:
I have really fine hair, but a lot of it. I have a scalp that’s just as easily irritated as the rest of my skin by heat, certain chemicals, and products. What I look for in a hair product is something that will keep my scalp healthy, and add volume to my hair.
Because I use heated tools on my hair almost everyday, I need haircare that is focused on preserving the strength of my hair too.
Why I love Korean haircare in general:
Korean haircare, apart from being hanbang heaven, works to preserve the health of your scalp, and is less focused on your hair strands. This makes sense to me because your hair strands are essentially already dead, so your scalp (part of your skin) is the most important area in haircare.
GLOW tip: When your scalp is healthy, your hair follicles will be healthy, and this then leads to healthy, shiny, happy hair, as well as extra hair growth.
So, if these are your hair goals (and why shouldn’t they be?), do look out for haircare products that are focused on scalp care first.
Skylake haircare range review (GO4GLOW readers discount below!):
In a nutshell, I LOVE THIS RANGE. The products smell like absolute herb-y hanbang heaven, they feel very refreshing on the scalp, plus something insane happened. Since using the Skylake hair tonic, my hair has grown a ridiculous amount in a month.
Some of Skylake’s notable herbal extracts include Peppermint leaf, Korean Angelica, Licorice root, Clover flower, White Mulberry, Marsh Parsley root, and many others that work to condition, re-balance, soothe, and hydrate your skin/ scalp.
As you can see from the pictures below, my hair has grown a full 2 inches in a month, is much thicker and more voluminous, and much shinier and stronger too. I’ve found that my ponytail bald spot has filled in (so much so that I can’t locate the bald spot any more), and my hair is dropping way less when I’m heat styling.
My hair in June 2017
My hair in July 2017.
Now let’s break it down into the 3 haircare products I used from Skylake.
Skylake Premium Oriental Herb Cool Shampoo
Product description: With a patented herbal formulation, Skylake Premium Oriental Herb Cool Shampoo contains polygonum multiflorum (hé shǒu wū), peppermint and other skin-loving oriental herbal extracts. It effectively stimulates hair growth, prevents hair breakage and thinning. It helps to promote healthy scalp and hair by stopping and reducing hair fall.
Product performance: I loved this with the first pump of the bottle. It comes out a gorgeous reddish honey colour, and it smells herb-y and fresh. It is very cooling and soothing on the scalp, and really eliminates oil, itch, and irritation. It’s lovely to use on it’s own, but I enjoyed using it with the conditioner too. The shampoo gives your hair a squeaky clean rinse (the kind that’s typical of haircare that isn’t padded with filler ingredients such as silicones and sulphates).
GO4GLOW Rating: 4/5. I will continue using this with joy. When out, I will repurchase.
Skylake Silk Chaeun Conditioner
Product description: Skylake Silk Chaeun Conditioner contains extracts of natural silk cocoon, wilfordi root and other skin-loving oriental herbs. It helps to calm and soothe sensitive scalp, detangle unruly hair, and restore moisture and shine to your hair, making it smooth as silk.
Product performance: I don’t mind a squeaky clean rinse from a shampoo, and I certainly don’t want to weigh my hair down with a conditioner that’s too heavy, but this conditioner makes my hair smooth and shiny, without weighing it down or causing my scalp to produce extra oil throughout the day.I used this conditioner with other Asian brand shampoos too (such as my beloved Ryo and PHS Haircare products), and it worked very well.
The conditioner’s fragrance is not as hanbang as the shampoo’s — it’s more floral, but also lighted scented, and refreshing. Also, because you only need a teeny tiny squeeze of conditioner (this goes a long way) each time, this bottle will last ages.
GO4GLOW Rating: 4/5 (same as shampoo above).
Skylake Herb Hair Tonic
Image taken from http://www.hebeloft.com
Product description: Skylake Herb Hair Tonic heals and soothes your scalp with extracts of oriental herbs and green tea. It nourishes your scalp, strengthens the hair follicles, inhibits dandruff formation and caters to hair growth. It thickens and strengthens weak and damaged hair, and stimulates hair growth with the patented herbal formulation.
Product performance: Yup, this hair tonic is what was responsible for my insane hair growth over the last month. I know this because I was travelling for a week in July, and didn’t faithfully use the shampoo/ conditioner, but I did keep this hair tonic with me the entire time.To use this, just spray 1-3 times on your scalp after washing and towel drying, before you put on any hair styling products. Then simply massage in gently with your fingers. It has a very slight cooling/ tingly effect when sprayed on.
Glow tip: Because 1-3 times isn’t enough for your entire scalp, I alternate the spots I spray on each time, concentrating on that ponytail bald spot of mine.
Recommended for: People with the same hair concerns as me (see above), people who are concerned about balding or losing hair. This is a great preventative as well as cure product (as envisaged by it preventing more hair loss, and also curing my bald spot).
Rating: 4.8/5. Not only will I use this with glee and repurchase with joy, I’ve been fiendishly recommending this to my friends who are concerned with hair loss. This is a great tonic to buy if you’re concerned with putting too much chemicals on your body too, because this tonic has a largely natural and clean ingredients list.
Where to buy Skylake: Find them on Hebeloft with a price range of $32 – $45. GO4GLOW readers, enjoy 30% off at Hebeloft with the code ‘GO4GLOW30’ too!
I hope you guys enjoyed my first haircare post! Would you like reading more about how to keep your hair glowing, shiny, and beautiful? Hit me up in the comments below.
Until then, glow big or go home! Love,Jess
